Every four years Americans participate in the voting process for the Chief Executive/Commander-in-Chief for the United States. That awaited day arrives tomorrow- November 6th.
When this country was being formed by some of our most legendary leaders- Washington, Adams, Jefferson, Hamilton, to name a few- they were adamant that this nation would be lead by elected representatives of the people. “By the people, for the people,” was their mantra in creating our Constitution. They did not want royalty or dictators, incumbents or lifetime politicians. They envisioned a government led by duly elected Patriots- men and women elected by their peers to serve for a limited time- so that they might return home knowing they had made an impact in shaping the Nation.
I’m quite sure that our early leaders would not be happy with the Washington of today. Lifetime politicians, special interest groups, lobbying firms, and an excessively large federal government would all likely make them cringe.
Yet, every four years we take to the polls to chart a course for the future of this Nation, and every election season I hear people comment that they won’t be bothering to vote.
Regardless of all of the things that are wrong with Washington and politics today, I am certain that NOTHING would make our founding fathers more upset than knowing that all of their blood, sweat, and tears were being callously ignored. Ignored by people living in a country that provides basic individual liberties protected only by the vote they are too careless to cast.
Monday Morning Perspective
“Thinking isn’t agreeing or disagreeing. That’s voting.” -Robert Frost
“Nobody will ever deprive the American people of the right to vote except the American people themselves and the only way they could do this is by not voting.”– Franklin Delano Roosevelt
No matter what your political beliefs are- those certain unalienable rights handed to us by our founding fathers are there to be exercised, not ignored. We have freedoms only dreamed of by others around the world, so don’t waste the opportunity to share your voice. Get out and VOTE!
Whether you’re for “Hope” or “Real Change”- Super Tuesday is upon us and a ballot is calling your name!
Have a wonderful week.
